Dawn Alexandra is a self-taught jewelry artist. Designing jewelry coincided with her interest in crystal therapy as she attempted to discover a way to wear natural crystals. Artistic pursuits have included building model Navy ships and fighter jets, woodworking and, for many years, decorative painting with acrylics and oils. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology and is a certified ART Level III Reiki Master Practitioner.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always enjoyed the entire creative process, from conceptualizing new designs to the actual hands-on creation of objects. My primary creative muse has been my animal companions. While the style of my jewelry continues to evolve, my interest in history, archaeology, mythology, and ancient religions and spiritual traditions remains constant and inspires my work.
I work with precious metal clay because it is so versatile and enables me to create jewelry with a lot of texture and detail. Often, the texture on some pieces is reminiscent of drybrushing or stippling, which may be attributable to my background as a painter. The weight of the finished pieces is more substantial than one would expect due to the thickness of the silver, partially to assure durability, and also because it imbues each piece with a feeling of solidity and strength.
Creating jewelry with precious metal clay is a bit like practicing alchemy, whereby you take one substance and, through the application of fire, transform it into a precious metal, namely silver. Pure magic!
